Blake Parish and Alex Valente of Dos Pueblos posted the No. 1 qualifying times in their respective events at the Klaus Barth Invitational swim meet at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach on Tuesday.
Parish swam 1:01.05 to qualify first in the 100 breaststroke while Valente swam the fastest 100 butterfly (53.69).
Dos Pueblos qualified second in the 200 medley relay with the team of Ryan Montag, Blake Parrish, Alex Valente, Vincent Dodero. They clocked 1:42.77. The 200 free relay quartet of Dodero, Graham Young, Parrish and Nic Lum also came in second in 1:33.49
Other qualifiers include: Lum, 4th in the 200 free, 1:49.77; Walker Bell and Valente, 4th and 5th respectively, in the 200 IM with times of 2:03.59 and 2:03.95; Dodero, 8th in the 50 free with a time of 24.07; Parrish, 5th in the 100 free with a time of 50.83; Bell and Lum, 5th and 6th, respectively, in the 500 free with times of 4:58.16 and 5:01.75; 400 free relay team of Bell, Steven Teng, Valente and Lum in 3:28.15.
“All in all it was a good start and we are in a very good position to compete for second place,” said coach Chris Parrish. “Unfortunately for us, Edison from Huntington is head and shoulders above the other teams in this meet. However, we are excited to return to Belmont Plaza on Friday for the finals. There is a huge opportunity for the qualifiers to post season best times and take the next step towards CIF.”
