Cardinals throw strikes, steal bags in victory

Nolan Tooley tossed six innings for Bishop Diego on Wednesday while the Cardinals offense swiped eight bases in a 6-1 non-league win over Mission Prep.

It was the sixth straight victory for the Cardinals who are 13-3 overall.

Tooley earned his third win of the season on the mound. John Rios pitched the seventh inning to finish off the win. An efficient Tooley needed only four pitches to get out of the third inning and only five in the fifth.

“He went out and threw a lot of strikes for us,” said Cardinals assistant coach Kai Solin about Tooley’s performance.

Jack Gregson collected four of the team’s eight stolen bases and scored two runs. He now has eight himself in the past two games and 13 for the season.

Jacob Salcedo recorded two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Aidan Williams stroked a double and scored twice with an RBI.

Mission Prep’s Calvin Levisay and Mark Marsden connected for doubles for two of the Royals’ six hits.

Bishop’s next game is on Friday. The Cardinals host Kilpatrick in another non-league game. JD Yonke will get the start for Bishop Diego.
