Celeste Acosta pitched a two-hit shutout and belted her first homer Thursday to lead SBCC to a 10-0 softball win over Cuesta in San Luis Obispo. The game was shortened to five runs by the 8-run rule.
Brianna Portese also homered for the Vaqueros (18-13, 8-3 WSC), who extended their season-high win streak to six games. She drilled her fifth homer, a two-run shot during a four-run fourth inning. Brianna Gill had an RBI double in the fourth and Natalie Orosco added a run-scoring single.
“We hit the ball hard today and our defense was stellar (no errors),” said coach Paula Congleton. “Even some of our outs were shots.”
Acosta, a freshman from San Jose, struck out five and walked one. She gave up singles in the first and fifth innings.
Samantha Cabada was 2-3 and two doubles and two runs while Portese was 1-2 with three RBIs and two walks.
The Vaqueros travel to first-place Ventura, ranked No. 8 in Southern California, on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. They’re two games behind the Pirates (10-1), who played at Moorpark on Thursday.
