Dos Pueblos’ track team endured a Saturday full of rain but saw a school record fall on Friday at this weekend’s Nike Redondo Track Festival.
Addi Zerrenner bested the record in the 3200 set by Erin Campbell in 2011. Zerrenner did it in 11:02.5 compared to Campbell’s 11:10.
“She was really patient, letting the leaders go early on only to pass them all with 800 meters to go. She won easily by at least 50 meters,” described Chargers coach Leslie Roth.
Zerrenner then anchored the Chargers’ mile-relay team that placed fifth with a time of 12:56.7. Elaine McClure, Marika Schipper and Emma Redick teamed with Zerrenner.
Bryan Fernandez and Max Davis both ran the fastest races of their high school careers in the 3200. Fernandez’s personal best clocked in at 9:25.85 to take 6th place and Davis finished in 9:38.71.
On Saturday, the rains arrived and it was especially wet in the morning.
Stamatia Scarvelis didn’t let it stop her from remaining undefeated in the discus and shot put. She placed first in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 11 inches. Her winning throw in the discus was 114 ft.
Another highlight for Dos Pueblos came from pole vaulter Sydney Eilbacher. After a four-hour delay because of the rain, Eilbacher vaulted 9-0 to win the frosh/soph event.
The Chargers next compete at Saturday’s Easter Relays at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium.
