Ben York hit a line single down the left-field line to score Dylan Rhode in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting Dos Pueblos to a 7-6 win over visiting Thousand Oaks on Saturday for its fourth straight victory in the Easton Tournament.
“We’ve won four straight and three against strong Division 1 programs, so we’re definitely happy where we’re at,” said DP coach Nate Mendoza.
The Chargers bounced back after Thousand Oaks scored two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the score at 6-6. Rohde led off with a double, Colin Cole reached first on a sacrifice bunt and the Lancers intentionally walked Anthony Spiritosanto to load the bases. York ended the game with his walk-off single.
Mendoza said a key to the win was his team’s patience at the plate. The Chargers drew nine walks from Thousand Oaks pitchers. Gabe Speier drew two walks, went 1-for-2 and scored two runs. York was 2-5 with a run scored and the game-winning RBI.
The Chargers (4-1) return to action next Saturday with a home doubleheader against Burroughs-Burbank.
