The Carpinteria High softball team won both its games at the Santa Ynez tournament, including a close 2-1 victory over San Marcos.
In the early game, the Warriors cruised past Santa Maria and won 12-5.
Catalina Maldonado had a fine day on the mound, while Elena Schneider went 2-for-3. Schneider had a home run and a triple with four RBIs.
Carmen Campi and Dakota Wilcox were also hot at the plate, and both went 3-4.
The game was called after five innings as the Warriors were up by seven runs.
Carpinteria faced off with San Marcos next, and the Royals proved to be much better competition.
The game started as a pitchers’ duel, with Maldonado battling with San Marcos’ Kristen Berlo.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings and heading into the bottom the sevSenth, the game was tied at one.
Tatiana Verdugo had a big hit in the seventh to get Giselle Vasquez on third, and Anna Gaslterer brought her home for the game winning run.
Carpinteria (2-0) will play next on Wednesday at home against Santa Barbara. The team will return to the Santa Ynez tournament next Saturday to face Cabrillo and Morro Bay.
