Carpinteria’s boys tennis team was victorious for the first time on Wednesday, using a spark created by Johnny Blackwell to defeat Channel Islands 14-4.
It was the first match of the season for Blackwell, who teamed with Cole Menegon to sweep three sets for the Warriors in doubles. Carpinteria won 8-of-9 doubles sets overall as David Harms and Collin Nathanson also swept their sets.
In singles, Nate Nunes, Justin Nathanson and Ben Murray all won two-of-three sets to provide the Warriors with six points.
Carpinteria is now 1-4 on the young season with Rio Mesa next up on the schedule.
