Warriors start off TVL play with win

Colton Rubio and his Carpinteria High baseball team fell behind to St. Bonaventure after the first inning on Wednesday. From then on it was a different story as the Warriors posted a 4-1 Tri-Valley League win.

Rubio pitched a complete game to improve to 3-1 on the season. Rubio pitched seven innings and struck out five.

“He quieted the Seraph bats with good location and change of speed which gave us a chance to come back,” credited Warriors head coach Pat Cooney.

The Warriors took the lead with two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Alifonso Delgado scored in both innings while Derrick Moore recorded a hit in the fourth and sixth. Rubio knocked in a run with an RBI double.

“The energy was good all day,” Connery said. “Positive talk, competitive play and we seemed to create a little bit of luck for ourselves.”

Patrick Weigel started for the Seraphs and struck out eight batter in 5 1/3 innings.
