Warriors split doubleheader with Santa Ynez

The Carpinteria High baseball team lost the first game of the its season-opening home doubleheader against Santa Ynez 6-1, but bounced back and took the nightcap 7-6.

“Our traditional doubleheader with Santa Ynez is one of our favorite baseball days each year,” head coach Patrick Cooney said.

Max Damron pitched for the Warriors, and held the Pirates to just four runs until the seventh inning.

The offense was never able to get on track, and Mo Sanchez was the only Carpinteria player with multiple hits in the game. Sanchez also drove in his team’s only run.

The Warriors’ bats came alive in the second game, and they led 7-1 after the sixth inning.

Diego Martinez was the most productive batter, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Colton Rubio started the game and pitched the first six innings, and Alifonso Rodriguez came in to close the game.

The Warriors (1-1) will have the week off and play a doubleheader at Cabrillo on Saturday.
