The Carpinteria High baseball team won a hard-fought home game 4-3 against Mission Prep on Wednesday.
Colton Rubio went the distance to earn his fourth victory of the season. Rubio picked off two runners in scoring position in the second inning, then got another Mission Prep base runner at third base in the fifth.
“The infielders are experienced and work well with Colton,” head coach Pat Cooney said. “They are looking for little opportunities to expose runners. In a one run game, that was probably the difference.”
In addition to getting outs in unconvetional ways, Carpinteria also received unexpected scoring help. After allowing Mission Prep to tie the game with a three-run sixth inning, the Warriors were able to load the bases their next time up. Jacob Barbere was then hit by a pinch to bring home the winning run.
Mo Sanchez and Derrick Moore each had two-out RBI singles to help Carpinteria to victory.
The Warriors (5-3) will continue their season on Friday at Santa Clara.
