Carpinteria split its two contests with Cabrillo on Saturday, winning the first 4-2 before absorbing a 15-3 rout in the second.
“Game one was an example of the type of game that we will have to play to win in 2012,” said Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “Game two got out of hand early.”
Colton Rubio improved his season record to 2-0 by pitching 6 1/3 innings for the Warriors in game one. Rubio helped his cause by picking off two baserunners and striking out five.
Cabrillo took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Carpinteria took control with two in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
In the second game, Cabrillo scored all 15 of its runs in the first four innings. It was the first win of the season for Cabrillo in five tries.
Rubio, Derrick Moore and Kevin Stein recorded two hits each in the second game.
Moore also provided the hot bat in the first game, going 3-for-3 with a RBI in the fifth inning.
