SBCC managed just six singles on Thursday in a 7-2 baseball loss to El Camino at Pershing Park.
The Vaqueros fell to 6-8 while the Warriors improved to 11-2 with their second win over Santa Barbara in three days. Center fielder Ronnie Galosic went 4-4 with a homer and a double to lead El Camino‘s 15-hit attack.
Pat Cavalier had two hits for the Vaqueros, who left 10 runners on base.
“Their pitcher threw well and El Camino is a good team,” said SBCC coach Jeff Walker. “They don’t make mistakes.”
Alex Mistuloff (4-0) got the win, limiting the Vaqueros to two runs on six hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Sophomore left-hander Rich McCaffrey (2-1) suffered his first loss, after giving up five earned runs in seven innings. He struck out four and walked one.
“I thought Rich threw very well and didn’t get rewarded,” Walker noted. “If he pitches like that in conference, we’re going to win a lot of games.
“We have some work to do on offense. We had a lot of quality at-bats, we just didn’t string enough of them together.”
SBCC tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first. Joey Gonzalez and Joey Epperson scored on an error and a wild pitch. After that, the Vaqueros didn’t get two runners on until the sixth when Zach Zehner singled and Mark Jebbia was hit by a pitch. Cavalier grounded into a double play, ending the threat.
The Vaqueros open defense of their WSC North title on Tuesday when they host Moorpark at 2 p.m.
