SBCC was held to three hits in a 3-0 loss in the opener of a WSC softball doubleheader on Tuesday at Oxnard, then came back to beat the Condors 3-2.
Celeste Acosta and Alyse Harris combined on a 3-hitter in the nightcap for the Vaqueros (12-10, 4-2 WSC Gold Division). Brianna Portese and Kiersty Briner had RBI doubles during a three-run third inning that put the visitors up 3-0.
Acosta struck out four and only allowed one hit in 3 2/3 innings. Harris got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth with a strikeout.
Harris got five of her 10 outs on strikeouts.
In the first game, Heather Bacon tossed a three-hitter for Oxnard and fanned seven.
“We couldn’t string anything together in the opener,” said coach Paula Congleton. “Give Bacon credit, she kept us off-balance. It was nice to see us come back 20 minutes later and show some tenacity to get a win.”
The Vaqueros travel to Moorpark on Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
