SBCC opened a six-game baseball road trip on a down note Tuesday as the Vaqueros lost to Oxnard 4-0.
Santa Barbara managed just four hits against three pitchers. It was the first shutout of the year for the Vaqueros (11-13, 5-5), who remained tied for second in the WSC North with Ventura and Moorpark. Cuesta is first at 9-1 at the midpoint of the conference race.
SBCC had scored 31 runs in its previous three games. Oxnard jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning.
“We loaded the bases in the first and couldn’t score,” said coach Jeff Walker. “We just couldn’t get timely hits.”
Matt Lloyd went 2-for-3 for the Vaqueros and has two hits in each of the last three games.
Casey Rodriguez (5 innings), Daniel Lerma and Cody Curz combined on the shutout for the Condors (8-15, 3-7).
“They had a couple of hard throwers,” said Walker. “There were about 10 (pro) scouts watching the last guy and he was throwing 93 and 95 mph.“
SBCC plays the next two at Moorpark on Thursday (2:30 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.).
