The San Marcos High track and field team defeated Santa Barbara in both the boys and girls competitions on Thursday.
The boys team took the meet by a score of 90.5-36.5 and the girls team won 109-17.
“A lot of people contributed to our win today,” coach Marilyn Hantgin said. “We had many people step up and get their best times. We have a wonderful bunch of kids. I am looking forward to the next months to see how much we improve.”
Grant Bradford won the mile for the boys, finishing in 4:42.
Greg Peterson helped his team to victory by winning two events. His time of 17.08 seconds for the 110-meter hurdles and his 42.29-second effort in the 300 hurdles were both good enough for first place.
For the girls, Kaylin Koopmans and Rocio Pacheco both won two events. Koopmans took the 400 meter race (60.12 seconds) and the 200 meters (27.73). Pacheco finished first in the 800 meters (2:31) and the 3200 meters (12:06).
San Marcos and Santa Barbara will both compete this Saturday at the Tri-City Relays at Westmont College.
