San Marcos’ swim teams pulled off a sweep of Oxnard on Friday in the Royals’ pool. The Royals’ boys won 123-60 and the girls 121-62.
Royals boys head coach Jeff Ashton liked what he saw in a number of races and noted James Sweeney, Jason Phreaner and Austin Howard for their contributions. Howard’s score of 333 won the diving competition and was a CIF qualifying performance. Sweeney was the event-winner in the 100 backstroke and Phreaner won the 500 freestyle.

On the girls side, Dasha Depew claimed 12 points for the Royals as the winner of two individual races and added two more relay victories. Depew bettered her own school record in the 100 butterfly to 1:02.11.
The Royals girls also won the diving competition thanks to Cassie Colegrove.
Freshman Anika Avelar won the 50 freestyle in a personal best time of 27.06 and was second in the 100 free.
San Marcos hosts Ventura next Thursday.
