San Marcos wasted a 13-strikeout effort by pitcher Kristen Berlo by committing four errors in a 7-1 non-league softball loss to Fillmore on Wednesday.
Fillmore jumped on the Royals with two runs in the first inning and added s single run in the third. The Flashes erupted for four runs in the seventh.
Jocelyn Flattery scored San Marcos’ lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Angel Mermis had a double and Veronica Villarral was 2-for-4 for the Royals.
San Marcos opens Channel League play at home against Dos Pueblos on Friday and then plays Bishop Diego (10 a.m.) and Cabrillo (2 p.m.) in the Santa Ynez tournament on Saturday.
