San Marcos knocked off its second straight opponent to start the season on Thursday with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-16 victory over visiting Arroyo Grande at the Thunderhut.
“We were very athletic tonight,” said Royals head coach Roger Kuntz. “They were too, but we brought it on just about every play tonight. It was exciting volleyball to watch.”
Sophomore Shane Hauschild converted 18 hitting attempts into 11 kills. His high hitting percentage was in part due to great play from setters Christian Widmer and Ian Dahill. Widmer led the team with 19 assists. Opposite Spencer Johnson added six kills.
Kuntz was also satisfied with San Marcos’ service game.
“We probably had six or seven guys with 2-to-3 aces,” Kuntz said.
Next week, the Royals (2-0) host Santa Ynez on Tuesday followed by Arcadia on Thursday.
