Top-ranked Mira Costa swept Santa Barbara High on Friday night 25-18, 25-13, 25-18.
It was the Dons’ second match in as many nights to start the season. They are 1-1 and face Royal in their next game on Tuesday.
The Mustangs are the No. 1 team in the Southern Section’s Division 1.
“We were just not on our A-game,” said Dons head coach Chad Arneson. “Our effort was there but our execution was off.”
Holden Ploch’s eight kills were a team-high for Santa Barbara, which also saw five kills from Tristan Fauntleroy.
Arneson said the Dons could have benefited from a better presence at the net as Santa Barbara only managed one block.
