Moorpark tops Vaqueros to take over second

Brady Conlon had two doubles and two RBIs on Thursday, leading Moorpark to a 6-3 baseball win over SBCC.

The Vaqueros (11-14, 5-6 WSC North) outhit the home team 9-5 but couldn’t come up with timely hits. The Raiders (11-15, 6-5) moved into sole possession of second place in conference, one game ahead of SBCC and Ventura.

Moorpark scored two in the fifth to stretch its lead to 5-1. The Vaqueros got RBI singles from Eli Michaels and Joey Epperson in the ninth to pull within 6-3. They had runners on first and third but Zach Mercer ended the game by getting a pair of groundouts.

Kevin Brown earned the win by holding Santa Barbara to one run in six innings. On offense, the Vaqueros had zero strikeouts for the first time this year.

“Their guy threw well,” said SBCC coach Jeff Walker. “We got hits but we needed timely hits.“

SBCC gets a rematch on Saturday at Moorpark, starting at 1 p.m.
