Hannah Harris struck out 11 batters and allowed just two hits in Dos Pueblos’ home opener on Thursday, a 5-0 non-league victory over Cabrillo.
“It feels really good,” Harris said. “We were kind of nervous coming in because we have a lot of freshmen on the team and so we just kind of wanted to come out and do our best.”
DP’s senior starting pitcher is the defending CIF Division 4 Player of the Year and has the Chargers off to a 2-1 start to their season. DP opens up Channel League play on Friday at San Marcos.
“We’ve progressed like a lot from the beginning of the season,” Harris said. “We only chose varsity a few weeks ago and the whole team has come together really well. The freshmen are stepping up a lot and they’re doing a great job.”
Chloe Madill and Haley Peterson provided two hits each to lead the offense. Madill’s hits were both doubles.
“They gave me a good pitch inside which is what I like,” Madill said of her first double. “They came to me in my second at-bat with the same pitch inside so I went for it.”
Madill’s first double scored Buie Madison in the first inning and Madill scored a run of her own on the third inning as the Chargers went up 2-0. DP added two more runs in the fourth inning.
