Santa Barbara High’s boys volleyball started its day at the Best of the West Tournament with a loss to eventual champion Loyola and ended it with a victory over COrona del Mar.
The Dons fell to Loyola 25-22, 25-15 in their first match of the day. Loyola went on to defeat Servite 25-13, 25-20 in the championship game.
Santa Barbara moved on from the loss to Loyola to take on Huntington Beach, coming away with another loss 25-22, 21-25, 15-9.
“We just have to learn how to finish games when we need to,” said Dons head coach Chad Arneson.
The Dons earned 13th place by defeating Corona del Mar in their final match 18-25, 25-18, 15-13.
Sam Cohen’s block emphatically closed it out. Arneson changed the lineup to find a spark and Ryan Worley and Holden Ploch did well playing different positions.
Arneson credited Gavin Trudeau and Carl Mendoza for making an impact throughout the tournament.
Santa Barbara hosts Valencia on Tuesday in its next contest.
