Santa Barbara High’s boys tennis team won 2-of-4 matches on Friday at the National High School All-American Tournament.
The Dons lost their first matchup with Torrey Pines of San Diego, but won their next two to reach the consolation final. After wins over Sage Hill (7-1) and Palisades (5-3), Santa Barbara lost to Memphis University School from Tennesee in the consolation final 5-3.
The 16-team tournament is normally played over two days but rainy weather forced the competition to complete play in just one day. As a result, each team played four matches on Friday.
“Our goal in this tournament is to play a lot of tennis and to compete against some of the best teams in the country,” said Dons head coach Greg Tebbe. “To play four matches of both singles and doubles against this high level of talent in one day is a testament to the excellent mental and physical conditioning our boys have achieved.”
Santa Barbara begins Channel League next week against Buena on Thursday.
