Santa Barbara won three of four team matches and finished fifth out of 120 teams at the California High School Tennis Classic in Fresno over the weekend.
“It was a great result for the Dons, who beat three top teams from Northern California and narrowly lost 4-3 to a strong Saratoga team, also from Northern California,” said coach Greg Tebbe.
Santa Barbara opened with a 5-2 win Los Altos, and also beat Archbishop Mitty 5-2 and Monte Vista 5-2.
The Dons were led by their doubles teams, which won 11 of 12 matches over the weekend. Their singles players went 7-9 against highly ranked opponents.
“It was a great team effort and a terrific start to the season,” said Tebbe.
The Dons have their home opener this Tuesday against Arroyo Grande.
