Crawford’s shutout keeps Dons undefeated in Central Coast Classic

Kenny Crawford pitched a complete-game shutout against San Luis Obispo to give the Santa Barbara High baseball team a 4-0 win on Tuesday in a Central Coast Classic game at Eddie Mathews Field.

“To pitch a complete game early in the season on a blustery day was incredible,” assistant coach Mike Cooney said.

Santa Barbara is undefeated in the tournament, winning all four of its games.

Crawford gave up 10 hits, but did not walk a batter and stranded 11 runners. He was helped out by his defense when Johnny Brontsema flipped a grounder to Zach Torres, who fired the ball to first baseman Junior Zarrinnaal to complete a 6-4-3 double-play. The highlight ended the fifth inning.

Brontsema smacked a two-run homer in the third inning to break open the game and finished the game 3-for-3 from the plate. Max St. John hit a two-RBI single in the fifth to cap off the scoring.

The Dons (4-0) will play their last tournament game on Thursday at home against St. Joseph.
