Luke Loggins picked up his second victory of the Easton Tournament for Dos Pueblos’ baseball team, as the Chargers brought down Hart 8-3 on Thursday.
The Chargers are 3-1 in the tournament and have won two in a row. Gabe Speier will make the start for DP in Saturday’s tournament finale against Thousand Oaks.
“The back-to-back wins just shows where we’re at,” said Dos Pueblos head coach Nate Mendoza. “We just need to continue to get better.”
Loggins struck out five in five innings before Nolan Soto came on in quality relief for the second straight game. The pair limited Hart, which had recently scored 20 runs on Westlake, to two earned runs.
Soto was also 2-for-4 at the plate. Dylan Rohde, Colin Cole and Gabe Speier all contributed two hits each.
Dos Pueblos scored three critical runs in the fifth inning on five hits that came with two outs. The big blow was a two-out single by Ben York.
Two defensive plays were key to DP’s victory. Third baseman Brett Patton made a full-extension diving catch on a line drive and Speier threw out a runner at home plate from right field.
Anthony Spiritosanto continued to create pressure on the basepaths with his fifth and sixth stolen bases of the season.
“We were able to steal some bags today and get things going,” Mendoza said.
