In what was first planned to be a three-way non-league meet between Dos Pueblos, Santa Barbara High and Fountain Valley, the Chargers and the Dons instead met on Friday at Santa Barbara High School in their one Channel League dual meet of the season.
The Chargers boys prevailed 118-67 and the girls 120-63.

Highlights from the day include Janelle Nguyen clocking an automatic CIF time in the 500 freestyle. Nguyen also placed first in the 200 freestyle and contributed to two winning relay races for DP.
The Dons swept the 50 freestyle sprints with Kelsey O’Brien and Evan Roberston. O’Brien won by almost two seconds in an automatic CIF qualifying time of 24.62 seconds. O’Brien’s time was a second off the Channel League record set in 1994 by Lindsay Gassner.
O’Brien also won the 100 free in the girls competition while Dos Pueblos’ Nic Lum edged teammate Grant Schroeder and Santa Barbara’s Robertson for first place in the 100. Lum also won the 200 free.
Both Chargers teams benefited from sweeping the 1-meter diving event. Transfer-student Lester Wright won his second straight Channel League meet with a score of 210.15.
The girls 4×100 freestyle relay was especially fast, as four teams clocked CIF consideration times. The Dos Pueblos foursome of Nguyen, Maelyn Adornetto, Emily Swindle and Laurel Kistler finished first with a combined time of 3:45.72.
