Cate defeated Valley Christian of Santa Maria 10-7 on Tuesday while Rams starting pitcher Justin Lucchesi recorded his second win of the season in as many tries.
The Rams, playing only their second game of the season because of Spring Break, scored seven times in the first three innings to take control. Cate recorded seven singles as a team but the Rams were able to post 10 runs.
Head coach Ben Soto said his team, which benefited from five errors by Valley Christian, did a good job of hitting with two outs.
Michael Warren came through with a two-out two-RBI single. Chris Oh contributed an RBI two-out single.
Carlos Fairbanks relieved Lucchesi in the sixth and closed out the game.
Cate (2-0) plays again on Friday against St. Monica Academy.
