The Cate boys volleyball team won the first two sets of its home match against Orcutt Academy, but the visitors took three straight to earn a victory.
The game scores were 25-18, 26-24, 18-25, 19-25, and 12-15.
Middle blockers Michael Castaneda and Herschel Jordan set the tone early for the rams.
“They blocked them off the court,” head coach Richard Pertsulakes said about the two athletes’ defensive performance.
Senior outside hitter Bowen Baker helped the team on offense, controlling the ball and making smart passes.
Orcutt Academy started to gain momentum in the third set, and Cate could not recover.
“We went up two and just kind of felt it should be a walk in the park—and that’s never the case,” Perstulakes said.
The Rams (1-2) will continue their season on Friday against Malibu at home.
