Reese Moulton struck out five batters in four innings to pick up the victory for Bishop Diego on Wednesday in a 8-2 decision over Orcutt Academy.
John Rios relieved Moulton and pitched two scoreless innings before Mitchell Oleson finished the game off with another scoreless inning. The three pitchers combined to strike out 11 batters in seven innings.
On offense, the Cardinals came up big with four runs in the third inning and three more in the top of the sixth.
A big part of Bishop’s run production came with the help of seven stolen bases on seven attempts. Sam Kwock, who was 2-2 at the plate, stole two bags. The Cardinals’ leadoff hitter now has seven swipes in four games. Scott Mandrell also stole two bases on Wednesday while going 2-3.
Jack Gregson was 3-4 and knocked in a team-high three runs. Gregson recorded a single, double, and triple. The RBI triple came in Bishop’s four-run third inning.
John Salda also had a double and a triple in a 2-3 day.
Bishop Diego (3-1) moves on to face Santa Ynez on Friday.
