SBCC had a rough day on Saturday at the Bakersfield Softball Classic, losing to Riverside 9-0 and Bakersfield 18-2. The first game was shortened to six innings by the run rule and the second game was five innings.
“These are two good teams but we’re just not backing up our pitchers,” said coach Paula Congleton. “We’re struggling a little right now and it may be fatigue.”
The Vaqueros (12-13) have dropped four of five games over the last five days.
Nichole Zink pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 for Riverside (16-7). Natalie Barrios and Ingrid Williams hit homers for the Tigers.
Julie Estep tossed a six-hitter in the second game as Bakersfield (17-6) collected 18 hits. Kiersty Briner had an RBI single in the fifth for the Vaqueros and scored on a passed ball.
Santa Barbara will take on Taft at 10 a.m. Sunday in its last game at the Bakersfield Tourney.
