After receiving an at-large bid into the CIF Division 4A playoffs, the Carpinteria High girls basketball team lost 68-18 in a difficult game against No. 7 St. Bonaventure.
The Warriors finished the season with a 12-16 overall record and tied for third in the Frontier League. Their finish earned them a tough draw and the team had to travel to play St. Bonny.
Carpinteria was physically outmatched as four of the five St. Bonny starters were 5’10” or taller. The hosts opened up a lead early and coasted to victory.
For the Warriors, Hannah Galster led the team with six points on two three-pointers while Bethany Lugo and Kristina Burch each had four points. Lesly Zapata hustled her way to three points and seven rebounds.
“There was no quit. The kids played hard,” head coach Dan Mercer said about his team.
Despite the loss, Carpinteria held its head high and is already looking ahead to next season.
“There are no seniors on this team and I think we’re going to be a very, very effective team next year,” Mercer said.
