Ventura won five of six singles on Tuesday at Pershing Park and went on to hand SBCC its first women’s tennis loss, 6-3.
The Pirates are 6-0 and 1-0 in the WSC while the Vaqueros fell to 6-1 and 1-1.
“Ventura is a tough, deep team and they played well today,” said coach Debbie Ekola. “The fifth and sixth singles were both tough matches.”
Caroline Morris beat SBCC’s Hannah Erickson 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and the Vaqueros’ Lindsay Penner prevailed 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 6. Erickson and Penner rallied from a 5-2 deficit to win their doubles set, 8-7 (8-6 tiebreaker).
SBCC will host San Diego Mesa on Thursday at 3 p.m.
