After falling behind 9-0, SBCC rallied to within a run of L.A. Pierce on Tuesday afternoon before dropping a 12-8 non-conference baseball game in Woodland Hills.
The Vaqueros (3-4) trailed 9-0 after four innings. They scored two in the fifth and six in the sixth to shave the deficit to 9-8. Pierce (1-4), which competes in the WSC South, pulled away with three runs in the eighth.
Stephen Foote, the first of five Vaquero hurlers, didn’t last three innings and suffered the loss. Santa Barbara gave up 13 walks and hit a pair of batters.
“You can’t give up 15 free bases and expect to win,“ said coach Jeff Walker. “That makes it tough on the defense.“
Pat Cavalier went 3-5 for the Vaqueros, who outhit the home team 12-7. Brandon Laubhan had a double and Eli Michaels tripled.
The Vaqueros open a three-game homestand on Thursday with a 2 p.m. game against Victor Valley.
