Junior transfer Jessica Soria has garnered her first Big West Player of the Week honor after an outstanding showing at the Gaucho Classic I last weekend.
Soria hit safely in all six of the Gauchos’ games to extend her hitting streak to seven straight and lead UCSB to a 5-1 record at its home-opening tournament.
The leadoff hitter led the team in hits (10), runs (4), RBI (3), triples (1) and stolen bases (1). She was also second on the team in total bases with 12. Soria went 10-for-21 for a .467 average. She had a .571 slugging percentage, .500 on-base percentage and was perfect in the outfield.
In the tournament’s opener against No. 23 Houston, Soria hit the game-winning triple, driving in a pair of runs. In the narrow 3-2 win over Nevada, she scored the game-tying run.
Soria and the Gauchos will be back in action this weekend when they travel to the Hawaii Invitational. They will face Florida State, Radford and host Hawaii during the three-day tournament, which begins on Friday, March 2.
