UCSB’s women swimmers will head south for the second Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship this Wednesday through Saturday. The 2012 Gaucho team consists of the core group that finished second last season with 629 points and won six total events, including two relays.
Several Gauchos will be looking to defend their event titles this weekend.
Andrea Ward won both the 500 free and the 100 fly at the 2011 Championships while Allie Knight is the reigning league title-holder in the 200 backstroke and Paige Bradley is the defending champion in the 200 butterfly. UCSB will also be defending its titles in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.
The Gauchos will be led in large part this week by its strong sophomore class, specifically Ward, Sophia Yamauchi and Knight. Ward swam the conference’s top-times this year in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 500 free. Yamauchi, meanwhile, holds the top mark in the 200 individual medley. She also went undefeated in individual events during the Gauchos’ dual meet season. Knight currently holds the league’s top-time in the 400 IM. UCSB has posted the top-times in the 200, 400 and 800 free relays as well as the 400 medley relay.
