INDUSTRY HILLS – Tyler Sterk shot a 6-over par 222 en route to a tie for 12th-place, helping the UC Santa Barbara golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Folino Invitational at the Industry Hills Golf Club on Tuesday.
Sterk shot a 1-over par 73 in the third and final round to pass teammate Russell Boring who entered the final day as the Gauchos’ leader. Boring entered the round at 2-over par, but was 6-over par Tuesday to finish at 8-over par 224, tying for 15th.
Kei Kita was the third UCSB player to finish among the top-30. He finished 14-over par with a score of 230 to tie for 27th. Hunter Robinson (28-over par, 244, 48th-place) and Jordan Epstein (31-over par, 247, tied for 51st-place) rounded out the field.
As a team, the Gauchos finished 51-over par and in seventh-place, seven shots behind Cal Poly, the sixth-place finisher, and nine back of Loyola Marymount, the fifth-place team.
Long Beach State narrowly defeated Pepperdine for the team title. The 49ers finished 15-over par while the Waves were 17-over par. The host school, Cal State Fullerton, was third at 18-over par.
Pepperdine’s Parker Page and Loyola Marymount’s Tyler Torano tied for individual honors at 1-under par 215.
UCSB returns to the course on Feb. 27-28 when it travels to Westlake Village to take part in the North Ranch Intercollegiate.
