Greer Shull put up 23 points for the Bishop Diego girls basketball team, who cruised past Holy Family to a 53-28 win.
The Cardinals ahd a 9-17 overall record on the season and faced stiff competition in the Tri-Valley League, going 2-10. They were ranked No. 12 in Division 5A and admitted into the playoffs via an at-large bid. The team raveled to Glendale to play Holy Family.
Shull was aided offensively by Madison Ballard who scored 11 points, and Josie McCoy who put up nine. Julia Jenkins, the team’s lone senior, was a force inside for the Cardinals with ten rebounds.
Bishop Diego broke the game open by finishing the first half, and starting the second half, very strong. The Cardinals outscored their opponents 31-11 in the second and third quarters combined.
The team earned a home game in the second round of the playoffs and will face No. 5 St. Margaret’s on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
