Forrest Iverson fired a 2-over 74 on Tuesday at Rio Bravo CC, and SBCC rallied to take second place in the Bakersfield Invitational men‘s golf tournament. Iverson, a freshman from Arcata, Calif., led the Vaqueros with a two-day total of 151.
Canyons won the nine-team, 36-hole tourney at 739. Santa Barbara was second at 769 and Bakersfield (782) took third. Canyons shot 377 on Tuesday with SBCC six strokes back. The Vaqueros started the final round in sixth place.
David Aarons (75-77) shot 152 for SBCC, Trevor Gorski posted a 154 (78-76) and Reese Hutchins was another stroke back at 155 (79-76).
“I was pleasantly surprised,” said coach Chuck Melendez. “This was a more difficult course (than the first round at Seven Oaks CC) and we were the only team to go lower (by 3 shots). We lost some strokes at the end and that’s an area we need to improve.”
The Vaqueros will compete in WSC No. 1 on Monday at Valencia CC.
