Sophomores Jasmine Johnson and Jennifer Jimenez, the co-captains of the SBCC women’s basketball team, went down with injuries early in Saturday’s game and Moorpark took advantage to post a 68-40 win.
“It’s been that kind of year for us,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “We’re down to eight players but I’m so proud of how hard they played tonight.”
Johnson was coming off a season-high 16-point effort three days ago in a 20-point win over Hancock. She was injured in the opening minutes. Jimenez had five rebounds and three assists before getting hurt.
Keia Nobles had 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Vaqueros (11-14, 5-5 WSC North). Katie Grande added eight points and Elia Salazar had seven points and seven boards.
The Vaqueros had 20 first-half turnovers as they fell behind 31-20. They shot just 19 percent in the second half (5 of 27) and 28 percent for the game.
SBCC has two games left in the regular season — Wednesday at Cuesta and Saturday at home vs. L.A. Pierce
