San Marcos garnered both Athlete of the Week honors on Monday.
Basketball player Cade Ridenour was voted the male award winner and Emily Allen of the soccer team earned the female award. They were recognized and presented with their plaques at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s annual Women in Sports Luncheon at the Earl Warren Showgrounds.
Ridenour played big for the Royals during rivalry week. In a 55-40 win over Dos Pueblos, he recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. He followed that up with a 16-point performance in a 48-40 victory over Santa Barbara.
Allen led the San Marcos soccer team to its first two Channel League wins. The freshman scored the game-winner in a 1-0 decision over Ventura and tallied both goals in a 2-0 victory at Santa Barbara.
Honorable mentions include Bryce Vinion of Santa Barbara High wrestling, Edwin Elizarraras of Carpinteria soccer, Yaskin Solano of Dos Pueblos wrestling, and Justin Vom Steeg of San Marcos soccer. For the girls, honorable mentions were McKenzie Scarborough of Laguna Blanca soccer, Jenna Phreaner of San Marcos water polo, and Tatiana Verdugo of Carpinteria water polo.
