Steven Reveles was 2-4 with three RBIs on Thursday, guiding SBCC to a 4-3 baseball win at Irvine Valley.
The freshman shortstop from Dos Pueblos High drove in a run in a two-run first inning and two more with a one-out triple in the sixth that extended the lead to 4-0. Reveles, who leads the Vaqueros (5-6) in batting at .368, extended his hitting streak to seven games. He’s No. 1 in the state with three triples.
Left-hander Rich McCaffrey (2-0) pitched seven solid innings, holding the Lasers (5-6) to one run on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks. With two outs in the eighth, Shane Turner came on with a runner on second and induced a groundout to short. Irvine also got a runner to second in the ninth before Turner recorded a groundout and strikeout for his second save.
Danny Jimenez was 4-4 and drove in all three runs for Irvine Valley, which committed four errors leading to three unearned runs.
Joey Gonzalez and Brandon Laubhan each scored twice for the Vaqueros, who didn‘t commit an error. One day earlier, they had six errors in a 7-6 loss to L.A. Pierce.
“McCaffrey threw seven strong innings and Shane came on in the eighth and ninth and did his job,” said coach Jeff Walker. “The difference was we made no errors today.”
The Vaqueros will play their third game in three days on Friday when Irvine Valley comes to Pershing Park for a rematch at 2 p.m.
