Alyse Harris and Celeste Acosta turned in a pair of pitching gems on Friday, leading the SBCC softball team to a two wins at the San Diego City Invitational. The Vaqueros (3-4) beat San Diego City 8-2 and Napa Valley 5-2 in a game shortened to six innings by the time limit.
Harris tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk in the morning game. Samantha Cabada went 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs while Acosta and Lauren Larabell were both 2-3 with an RBI.
The Vaqueros broke open a 2-2 game with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
Acosta limited Napa Valley to one earned run on five hits in SBCC‘s third straight win. She struck out seven and walked one. Larabell got things going with a two-run single in the first inning. Seven of the nine Vaqueros got hits.
“We looked a lot more solid in every phase,“ said coach Paula Congleton. “We’re starting to find our groove as we play more games.“
There are 15 teams in the tourney and the Vaqueros were seeded No. 2 for the 8-team championship playoffs. They’ll take on WSC rival Ventura on Saturday at 11 a.m.
