Talia Hudson rallied for a three-set victory on Friday and SBCC went on to beat Fresno City 6-3 in a women’s tennis match at Fresno.
Hudson, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, dropped the first set to Kate Abston 6-4, then captured 12 of the next 13 games to win the last two sets, 6-1, 6-0. Sophie Angner won at No. 1 singles and Precious Ncube prevailed at No. 6 by a 6-0, 6-1 count for the Vaqueros (2-0).
Angner and Hudson won their doubles set 8-2, sparking a 3-0 sweep in doubles.
“We played doubles first because that’s the way they do it in their conference and our No. 2 and 3 teams rallied to win tough sets (by 9-7 and 8-6 scores),” noted coach Debbie Ekola. “I was impressed by Talia’s comeback win.”
SBCC completes its three-game road trip on Saturday at Sequoias, starting at 11 a.m.
