Brandon Gonzalez hit four 3-pointers, and Bishop Diego fought off a fired-up Santa Paula team on its Senior Night, 56-52.
“They always play hard,” Bishop coach Dean Prophet said of Santa Paula. “We lost last year there. They were really motivated. In the second half, they hit seven threes. They really hurt us hitting the threes.”
Gonzalez kept Bishop in the Frontier League game with his 3-pointers. He finished with 16 points
Elias Munoz led Bishop in scoring with 24 points.
Prophet said Santa Paula’s free-throw shooting kept the game close. It hit 6-of-6 in the fourth quarter.
“We hung on. The kids found a way to win,” Prophet said. “It was important to come back after the Malibu loss.”
Bishop is 12-13 and 6-2 in the Frontier League.
