Forrest Iverson carded a 2-over 74 on Monday, leading SBCC to second place in the first WSC men’s golf tournament at Valencia Country Club.
Iverson, a freshman from Arcata High in Humboldt County, was playing the course for the first time. He finished third behind medalists Travis Bregman and Jacob Graliezer of Canyons, who both shot 72.
Iverson has shot 77, 74 and 74 in his first three collegiate rounds.
Canyons won the tourney at 375. The Vaqueros were second at 399, followed closely by Hancock (400), Ventura (401) and Glendale (401). Ventura won a card-off for fourth place in the seven-team event.
“Those are some of the highest scores I’ve seen in a while,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “The greens were hard and it was tough to keep balls on the green. They were also difficult for putting.”
Santa Barbara’s other scores were all between 80 and 82. David Aarons shot 80, Trevor Gorski 81 and Reese Hutchins and Kyle Rieb both recorded 82s.
The Vaqueros will host WSC No. 2 on Monday at the Alisal Ranch Course in Solvang, starting at 11 a.m.
