San Marcos girls soccer coach Macie Berlin said the Royals “played beautifully” for the first 10 minutes against perennial power Buena.
“The other 70 were a different story,” she added after Tuesday’s 5-0 loss to the Bulldogs in a Channel League match.
Buena scored two goals in the first half and “nailed the coffin in the second half” with three more goals, said Berlin.
Despite the loss, the Royals (2-4-2 in league) will finish league play in third place and earn a CIF playoff spot.
“We walked into the game with a playoff spot and walked out with a spot,” said Berlin.
