El Camino piled up 18 hits in a 17-4 nonconference baseball win over SBCC on Tuesday in Torrance. The Warriors (10-2) took advantage of five errors by the Vaqueros (6-7) to score nine unearned runs.
El Camino has won its last three games by a combined 44-9.
“We didn’t play very well against a hot team,” said SBCC coach Jeff Walker. “They busted it open in the sixth.”
Zach Zehner went 3-4 for the Vaqueros while Brandon Laubhan and Joey Epperson had two hits apiece. Joey Gonzalez had a two-run double during a three-run seventh inning. Epperson also had two RBIs.
The Warriors broke open a 3-0 game with seven runs in the sixth. Brendon Shoemake (3-1) went the first 5 1/3 innings for SBCC and suffered his first loss, giving up eight runs (three earned) on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Rafael Ramirez got the win, holding the Vaqueros to no runs on six hits over six innings.
Shortstop Steven Reveles, the Vaqueros top hitter at .357, left the game in the second inning with an injury.
The Vaqueros get a chance for revenge on Thursday when El Camino comes to Pershing Park for a 2 p.m. contest.
