The Santa Barbara High girls basketball team trailed early in its game at Ventura on Wednesday and could not climb back to earn a victory, with the game ending at 64-38.
Ivette Gil led the team wtih 16 points and Melissa Lemus put up 14.
The Dons struggled in the second quarter and only scored two points. However, the team responded after halftime and outscored the Cougars 18-11 in the third period.
“Either im a great halftime speaker or we just started focusing on what we needed to focus on,” head coach Andrew Butcher said about the team’s Jekyll and Hyde performance in the second and third quarters.
Ventura finished with a perfect 8-0 record in the Channel League.
Santa Barbara finished 3-5 in league and 15-11 overall. The Dons are in contention for the third and final playoff spot as well as an at-large bid into the postseason based on its season record.
