Ivette Gil’s stepped up in a big game for Santa Barbara High on Monday. Gil’s 22 points, nine rebounds, and four steals were a large part of the Dons’ 56-47 Channel League victory over visiting Dos Pueblos.
Gil made eight of her 14 shot attempts in the game.
“It was probably her best game of the year if you look at all she did,” said Dons head coach Andrew Butcher.
As a team, the Dons converted 19 of 22 free throws. Sylvia Hoover paved the way for Santa Barbara in that department by making 11 of 12 herself.
“We’ve been spending lots of time on free throws so it was good to see,” Butcher said.
Butcher also pointed out that his point guard, Melissa Lemus, did not commit a turnover the entire game.
The clutch performances helped deliver Santa Barbara the league over DP to split the Channel League season series. Both teams are 3-4 in league play with a game to play.
Jasmine Mata led Dos Pueblos with 17 points and Talitha Draper contributed 15. Chiara DiMarco had 10 points and Kristen Gowdy 5.
Santa Barbara (15-10) held a 40-30 lead after three quarters.
